Welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering at SIMATS Deemed University (DOCES)- A premier centre of excellence in construction, surveying and cilil engineering. If you enjoy designing complex mind bending structures, inventing radical eco-friendly solutions etc, you have come to the right space.

Why Study Civil Engineering?

1. Jobs, Jobs Jobs!

India is a booming economy. Look around you there is so much construction activity taking pace. Our country is at the cusp of infrastructural revolution hence the demand for civil engineers is very high. A good civil project manager makes much more than a team leader in a MNC. In fact our department is one of the most highly placed departments in the university. If you look closely, civil jobs are the easiest to get in an interview. You do not need to speak fluent english or have connections to get a job.

2. Art and Creativity.

Be it a sand castle in a beach or a shed for your pet, there are so many ways to build the same thing. similarly, an architect may design the building but structurally redesigning it into a marvel is int he hands of a civil engineer. With advances in CAD and new materials for constructions, the demand for cicil engineering analysts, structural engineering experts has sky rocketed. And getting a skilled structural engineers with a good aesthetic sense is near impossible to get. If you have style and good aesthetic sense, then you have the potential to be a market leading civil engineering expert!

3. New experiences

You will get opportunity to work on different sites and travel new places. Much of their work time is spent outdoors at work sites where they monitor buildings and projects and resolve project issues. The nature of the work keeps civil engineers active and on the move. It is also dynamic, which means each project has its own distinct design challenges and operational issues. Engineers also get to work closely with contractors, architects and workers.

4. Specialisation Opportunities

Because of the wide range of the civil engineering field, there are a number of specialised areas where one can focus based on personal interest. The main areas of focus for civil engineers include structural engineering, construction, geotechnical engineering, water resources and transportation. Civil engineers also often hold supervisory and administrative positions, and still others might choose to work in design, teaching or research.

5. Pride

Statues and Monuments are named after great civil construction experts. Its is very rare for computer engineers to get thing named after them. this show how important you work will be considered as a civil engineer.

About US

The Department of Civil Engineering, started in the year 2010-2011, with an aim of graduating high professional and social responsible civil engineers with an intake of 120. The Department of Civil Engineering is approved by UGC and AICTE. The department is well-equipped with the state-of-the-art equipment and instruments that cater to the needs of students, and faculty for academic and research purposes. In addition to the regular curriculum-based laboratories, there are two fully-equipped research labs in the field of concrete Technology and Environmental Engineering. The objective of the department is to characterise the students in to a highly knowledgeable civil engineer who is capable of embracing civil engineering challenges and learning advanced techniques with a good spirit of ethical & social responsibilities.

Vision

The vision of the department is to strive to impart quality engineering education by adopting good teaching practices and to equip the under graduates in all the areas of Civil Engineering to facilitate them to take up the needs and challenges of the industry and the community and to inculcate the sense of moral and societal responsibility in nation building.

The Department of Civil Engineering with its multifaceted faculty continues to maintain and cultivate its strong links with the infrastructural industry such as L&T, Gammon India, and other Govt. agencies etc. The department has also benefited from international linkages facilitated by University-level MoUs with a number of leading foreign Universities such as University of Surrey, University of Manchester.

Mission

The mission of the department is

  1. To empower the students by providing engineering education with strong fundamentals coupled with latest trends to meet the growing needs of the industry.
  2. To modernize all the laboratories with advanced facilities to learn all the sub areas of civil engineering in a better way.
  3. To produce Civil Engineers with good attitudes with leadership abilities to reach national and international arena and to interact with industry and community for nation building
  4. To provide multidisciplinary opportunities for students and faculty within the department and other departments.
  5. To produce wholesome undergraduates with high professional and moral skills to support the society.

The department currently offers Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.,) programme in Civil Engineering, Master of Engineering (M.E.,) programme in Structural Engineering and Ph.D., research programme that follows the curriculum framed by highly professional committee that consists of stakeholders.

The curriculum of B.E., covers a variety of fundamental as well as advanced engineering subjects such as Surveying, Construction Materials, Soil mechanics & Foundation Engineering, Structural Analysis & Design, Hydraulics & Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Remote Sensing and GIS.
